Our Story

Katherine Akbar, an award-winning author and a former foreign service officer, passionate about human rights, education, and personal development founded Your Edge for Success (YES) in 2009, initially to provide education as well as writing services.  

Like many other solopreneurs passionate about their cause, the company could only offer as much services as Katherine could personally perform.  That is until her future husband Michael, a business and career coach, joined the organization.   Michael who right out of graduate school had found himself a refugee in a country whose language he could barely speak, had already mastered the art of guerrilla job hunting persuading General Electric to hire him in South East Asia and bring him back to the States. 

Together, Katherine and Michael, leveraging the struggles of their own careers, discovered what it would take to truly help someone get their dream job, and why it is critical to come from a place of compassion in helping professionals make the right transition.  These values and commitments are reflected in the spectrum of services company provides today and the guarantees it offers.

The rapid growth of the company became a threat to maintaining quality and personalized care for our clients.  That’s when Katherine stepped back and focused on leveraging technology, developing extensive training and certification program for our staff, enabling us today to provide the quality of work we provide nationwide.  Of course, to this day, Katherine personally interviews, hires and trains all our writers and editors.
